The mission of First Church is to honor God by becoming and making fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
We believe and confess that all things that have been created have been created to honor and glorify God. (Rom. 11:36)
We have dedicated ourselves to honoring God in two ways:
(1) By becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. (Luke 9:23)
(2) By making fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. (Matt. 28:19-20)
We believe that all fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ will do three things:
Worship the Lord:
One of the most common commands in Scripture is to worship the Lord and to do so with gladness and thanksgiving (Ps. 100). As a church we set aside one day a week for worshipping together. We gather at 9:30am and 5:30pm to praise the Lord and hear from His Word together.
Love the Church:
The church is not optional for people who want to follow Jesus! Jesus saved us to be a part of His church. Jesus loves His church (Eph. 5:25), he prayed for His church (John 17:20), and He will one day return for His church (John 14:3). We love the church because the church is the people of God. Our love for one another may take many forms, but one thing that is a must for us is spending time together talking, praying, and studying God's Word.
Serve their Neighbors:
Following Jesus means acting in the same ways that he acted. Jesus was a servant. He fed people, healed people, and even washed His disciples' feet. Following Jesus today means that we too are servants of those around us. The parable of the good Samaritan reminds us that we are to love our neighbors no matter who they are (Luke 10:25-37). We serve our neighbors because it is what Jesus did and also because it helps others to see the love of Jesus for themselves (Matt. 5:14-16)
